Is it safe to be alone the first night after a tummy tuck?
No. The first 24–72 hours carry the highest risk of complications, including bleeding, medication reactions, falls, and blood clots, and you can't safely get out of a recliner alone while flexed at the waist. Surgeons require a capable adult with you; an overnight RN is the safest version of that.
Who takes care of my drains after a tummy tuck?
Your nurse does. Prestige RNs strip, empty, and log your drain output at the intervals your surgeon orders, watch the color and volume for early warning signs, and keep the written record your surgeon's office wants to see at your follow-up.
How do I sleep after a tummy tuck?
In a flexed, beach-chair position, with head and knees elevated so there's no tension on the abdominal repair. Most patients sleep in a recliner or a wedge-pillow setup for one to two weeks. Your nurse builds the setup, helps you in and out safely, and repositions you through the night.
How long until I can stand up straight after a tummy tuck?
Most patients walk hunched for about one to two weeks, straightening gradually as the repair settles, with your surgeon's orders controlling the pace. Forcing yourself straight too soon risks the muscle repair. A nurse helps you walk gently and often, which lowers clot risk without straining the incision.
